Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the chart’s subject and attempts an overview, noting China’s high production and that Russia’s figures are close. However, several key details are misreported: China, not Japan, produced 5,398 billion kWh, and Brazil was not the leading consumer; China was. Germany had the lowest production among the listed countries, but Korea—not Germany—had the lowest consumption. The response also gives only a few production figures and does not report the consumption data or make useful comparisons across most countries. At 107 words, it is 43 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. Select the main extremes accurately, then support the overview with comparisons from both series.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then a paragraph with figures. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is weak because the final paragraph stops after listing production figures and does not develop the comparison between production and consumption. The overview also contains conflicting or inaccurate claims, making the relationship between ideas difficult to follow. Linking is limited, and the colon in the opening introduces a list that is not presented consistently. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and connect figures with clear contrasts such as “whereas” or “by comparison.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “billion kwh,” and “utilization,” so the general subject is recognisable. It also attempts alternatives such as “generation” and “usage.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing a chart: “production rate,” “stood at first position,” “making,” and “electricity demands” do not express the data clearly. Spelling and capitalisation are inconsistent, as in “brazil,” “germanny,” and “korea,” and “nillion” appears to be a typo. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language and check country names and units carefully; this will make the limited range more effective and reduce ambiguity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes some simple sentence forms and attempts a more complex overview sentence, for example, “Overall, china has the highest amount of production rate while brazil stood at first position of consumption rate.” This shows an effort to combine ideas, but control is uneven. There are problems with articles and sentence construction in “in 2014 of countries,” and the final sentence fragment, “Russia, Japan and India were at almost similar catagory … for energy,” lacks a complete, clearly formed comparison. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, including spaces before commas and full stops. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use consistent past-tense reporting for the 2014 data.
