Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview by noting that China and the United States lead in both production and consumption. You also include figures for all ten countries, and most are accurately reported. However, the response is under the required 150 words, and several figures are listed without explaining the comparisons they show. The overview’s grouping of Russia, Japan and India as “average” is vague, while calling the remaining countries “the lowest” overlooks Germany’s consumption being higher than its production and higher than several other countries’ consumption. Develop the main patterns more clearly, including the large gap between the top two countries and the general production-consumption relationship.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs covering the countries. Sequencing from the largest producers to the smaller ones gives the reader some sense of order, and words such as “Overall,” “Initially” and “Finally” signal stages. However, the progression is weakened by the list-like presentation of figures, especially the sentence fragments “However, Russia 1,057, 1,038” and the subsequent entries. “While” also begins an incomplete sentence, and “Moreover” does not clearly connect the country grouping to the preceding point. Use complete sentences and organise comparisons into meaningful groups, with linking phrases that show how the figures relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumed,” “generated” and “utilised,” and the chart’s units are included. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing data. “Average” is imprecise for the middle-ranked countries, “lowest ration” appears to mean “lowest ratio” but does not describe the figures appropriately, and “as compare to” is an incorrect expression. There is also a spelling error in “cosumption.” Aim for precise terms such as “mid-ranking,” “output,” “consumption levels” and “compared with.” Varying language is useful, but prioritise accurate collocations over substituting synonyms mechanically.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex forms, and the opening sentence communicates the chart’s purpose clearly. However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and agreement occur often enough to affect clarity. “While, the Russia, Japan and India were average” is not a complete, well-formed sentence, and “the China produced” uses an unnecessary article. The sequence “However, Russia 1,057, 1,038” is a fragment rather than a complete comparison. Punctuation around the figures is also inconsistent, making some data difficult to interpret. Practise writing complete sentences that state both production and consumption, and check articles, subject-verb agreement and punctuation.
