Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview by noting that China and the United States lead, while Korea has the lowest production and consumption. You also include several figures, but the response only partially covers the data: India and Canada are named without figures or comparisons, and Germany’s consumption being higher than its production is not highlighted. There are factual inaccuracies: US consumption is 3,866, not 3,846, and France’s consumption is 462.9, not 462.2. The Russia and Japan figures are also presented in a confusing way. The response is 146 words, below the required 150-word minimum. To develop the report, compare the main patterns accurately and include the notable German exception.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and two paragraphs of figures, so the reader can identify the general purpose. However, progression is limited: the overview repeats details about China and the US that are then repeated in the final paragraph, while the country groupings do not consistently guide the reader through the chart. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “After this” and “In addition” are used, but some connections are unclear or mechanical. For example, “Russia and japan produce electricity rate is mostly same” is difficult to connect to the following list. Organise the body into clear comparisons, such as the two leading countries, the middle group and the lower-ranked countries, and avoid repeating figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough chart-related vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “production,” “consumption,” “produce” and “usage rate.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or repetitive. “Produce” and “rate” recur frequently, and “their usage rate” is less precise than a direct comparison of electricity consumption. Spelling errors such as “demostrate,” “cosumption” and “coutries” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Some phrases, including “produce electricity rate” and “lowest rate,” are not natural ways to describe the figures. Use a wider set of precise reporting verbs and comparison phrases, and check spelling carefully so the reader can focus on the data rather than deciphering wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use simple subject–verb patterns, and the basic meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited, and frequent errors in agreement and sentence construction make parts difficult to read. Examples include “China produce” and “United States produce,” where the verb form does not agree with the subject, and “Russia and japan produce electricity rate is mostly same,” which lacks a clear grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “Russia produce energy 1,057 kwh and Japan produce 936.2 kwh” also joins several comparisons without clear sentence boundaries. There are punctuation and spacing problems, such as “energy.China” and “kwh.United.” Practise accurate present-tense reporting and build clear sentences that compare production with consumption.
