Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s subject and report many country figures, including the leading positions of China and the United States and the lower output of Korea. However, the response mainly lists data rather than selecting and summarising the main features. It lacks a clear overview of the large gap between the top two countries and the rest, and does not highlight that production exceeds consumption in nearly every country, with Germany the exception. There are also factual inaccuracies: Canada’s production is given as 561.2 rather than 618.9, and Brazil’s consumption as 455.5 rather than 455.8. The final paragraph repeats the ranking instead of adding a meaningful comparison. Focus on accurate key patterns as well as selected figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence, moving from China through the ranked countries, and paragraph breaks provide some separation. However, there is little overall progression from an overview to grouped comparisons and supporting details. Most sentences repeat the same pattern, such as “the production is” followed by “the consumption is,” while connectors including “moreover,” “however” and “therefore” are sometimes used without a clear logical relationship. The opening is difficult to follow, and the final paragraph repeats information already given. Organise the report into an introduction, a concise overview, and body paragraphs that group the most important comparisons; use linking words only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Vocabulary is sufficient to name the countries and discuss the two measures, and terms such as “production,” “consumption” and “ranking” are relevant to the task. However, the range is basic and highly repetitive, with “the next,” “the production of this” and “the consumption of this” used repeatedly. Frequent spelling errors—such as “elictricity,” “counsumption” and “chiana”—make the writing less clear and reduce control of vocabulary. Some expressions are also unnatural, for example “the ranking of electricity in top 10 countries.” Build a more precise set of chart-reporting phrases, such as “generated,” “used,” “stood at” and “by comparison,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mostly on simple statements and shows limited control of sentence construction. Several clauses are joined or punctuated poorly, as in “the production of this 561.2 and the counsumption is 499.9.moreover,” and the opening sentence fragment does not form a clear complete statement. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, while repeated structures prevent the writing from demonstrating much grammatical range. Despite these problems, the reader can usually identify which figures refer to production and consumption. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use a small range of accurate comparison structures, such as “Production was higher than consumption in…”
