Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the chart’s subject and units, and your overview correctly notes that China and the United States lead in both production and consumption. However, the response is only a brief beginning: it gives no supporting figures or comparisons and does not report the other countries’ patterns. The final clause, “whereas the germany and korea,” is unfinished, so the intended comparison cannot be understood. The response also falls 85 words short of the required minimum, leaving the task substantially incomplete. To develop the report, complete the overview and describe key contrasts—for example, the large gap between the top two countries and the much lower figures for the remaining nations, including Germany’s consumption exceeding its production.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the chart, followed by an overview beginning with “overall.” This gives the reader a simple starting structure. However, the response stops before a clear progression of details can be established, and the final sentence is incomplete, ending with “whereas the germany and korea.” The two sentences also do not develop a connected comparison or lead into supporting information. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the introduction, overview and key data, and connect comparisons explicitly with phrases such as “by contrast” or “while.” This would make the organisation more coherent and the relationships between the figures clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant chart vocabulary, including “produced,” “consumed,” “producers,” “consumers” and “measured in billion kwh,” so the topic is generally clear. The range is nevertheless narrow, with repeated use of “electricity” and “production” and no vocabulary for describing differences, rankings or quantities. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form issues: “countires” should be “countries,” and “dark color” and “light color” could be expressed more precisely as “dark-coloured bars” and “light-coloured bars.” Aim to use a wider set of accurate reporting terms, such as “accounted for,” “exceeded,” “approximately” and “the highest figures,” while checking spelling and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You produce a basic complete sentence to introduce the chart, and the clause “whereas the germany and korea” shows an attempt to make a contrast. However, the range is limited, and the unfinished clause is not a complete sentence. In “the amount of the electricity produced and consumed,” the article use is awkward; “the amount of electricity produced and consumed” is more natural. The overview also needs a complete, grammatically parallel comparison, such as “China and the United States are the largest producers and consumers, whereas Germany and Korea have much lower figures.” Check sentence endings and punctuation as well: the introduction ends with two full stops.
