Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s subject and report accurate figures for China and the United States, including their leading positions. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it gives no information about the other eight countries and offers only a limited overview, without comparing the wider pattern. The overview that China leads is relevant, but it does not mention that production generally exceeds consumption or note Germany as the exception. The response is also 95 words, below the required 150, so there is not enough coverage of the chart’s main features. To improve, include a fuller overview and select comparisons across the remaining countries, rather than focusing almost entirely on the top two.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, understandable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph with figures for China and the United States. The information is presented in a sensible order, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” attempt to guide the reader. However, the comparison signalled by “On the other hand” is not a clear contrast, and the final sentence repeats the idea that the United States ranks second. There is also little progression beyond these two countries, so the response feels incomplete as a summary. Organise the body around broader comparisons—for example, the two leading countries, the middle group, and the lower figures—and use linking expressions only where they accurately show the relationship between points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a small set of relevant terms, including “bar chart,” “produced,” “consumed,” and “electricity,” and the key topic remains understandable. However, the vocabulary range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “consumpt” is not the correct form, “spent” is unsuitable for electricity use, and “top at list” is an awkward expression. “Different countries that how many electricity” also shows difficulty expressing the chart’s subject naturally. These errors make the description less clear and precise, although the main figures can still be understood. Build a more accurate set of chart-description phrases, such as “generated electricity,” “electricity consumption,” “ranked first,” and “accounted for,” and check word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You communicate the basic message using simple sentences and make an attempt at a more complex relative clause, as in “the country which had produced…”. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction and grammatical forms. For example, “gives the information about different countries that how many electricity” has an incorrect clause structure; “China is top at list who had produced” uses an unsuitable relative pronoun and tense; and “One the other hand” is missing a preposition. The sentence about the United States also has an unclear structure, particularly “which had more produced and consumpt.” Practise clear present-tense descriptions of chart data and accurate comparative sentences, while checking articles, clause structure, and verb forms.
