Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s subject and report figures for all ten countries, with most values matching the data. However, the overview does not summarise the main features: it mainly lists the countries, rather than noting that China and the United States produced and consumed far more electricity than the others. You also miss useful comparisons, such as production exceeding consumption in nearly every country, while Germany is the exception. The response is 143 words, below the required 150; the 13 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. These omissions, together with the limited overview, mean the task is addressed only minimally. Add a concise overview and explain the most important contrasts rather than relying mainly on a sequence of figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: you use an opening, an overview paragraph, and two body paragraphs, with “First of all” and “Second of all” to separate groups of countries. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, the overview does not establish a clear progression, and the body paragraphs read largely as long lists joined repeatedly by “and.” This makes comparisons difficult to follow and the linking language mechanical. For example, the first body paragraph moves through five countries without grouping them by a meaningful feature. Use shorter, clearly structured sentences and organise the data around comparisons, such as the two leading countries and the remaining lower figures. This would create a clearer overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to name the chart topic, countries, and units, and terms such as “production,” “consumption,” and “billion kWh” are relevant. However, the range is basic and repetitive: “and” is used throughout, while “First of all” and “Second of all” do not express meaningful data comparisons. Several spelling and form errors, including “conumption,” “electricty,” and “KWh,” reduce accuracy. Phrases such as “top ten rank country” and “the first China” are also unnatural and make the overview harder to understand. Build a small set of precise chart-description phrases, such as “ranked first,” “stood at,” and “by contrast,” and check spelling and standard unit formatting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a basic paragraph structure and uses some simple clauses, but sentence forms are very limited and many statements are fragments rather than complete sentences. For example, “The first China the production 5398 billion kWh” has no clear verb, and the long sequences of figures joined by “and” lack reliable sentence boundaries. There are also frequent problems with articles, capitalization, and agreement, as in “The bar chart illustrate” and “the first one of the china.” These errors sometimes make relationships between the figures unclear. Practise writing complete sentences with a subject and verb—for example, “China produced 5,398 billion kWh and consumed 5,322 billion kWh”—and use full stops to separate each comparison.
