Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main extremes accurately: China leads both production and consumption, while Korea has the lowest production and consumption figures. You also report China’s and the USA’s values correctly and note the sharp drop after the USA. However, the response is only 123 words, below the 150-word minimum, and this limits the detail you can provide. The overview is broad, and the final comparison is incomplete: Germany is listed without its figures, and its consumption (582.5) is actually higher than its production (526.6), unlike most countries. Include more key comparisons and precise figures, and make sure the overview reflects notable exceptions as well as the overall pattern.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph with figures and further comparisons. This helps the reader follow the main points, and the contrast marker “On the contrary” signals a shift. However, the final paragraph ends as a list of countries rather than developing a complete comparison, so the progression of information is limited. Some linking is also repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “as well as,” and the relationship between the listed countries and the claim of a gradual decline is not fully clear. Group the middle-ranking countries into a more purposeful comparison and use linking phrases to show how their figures relate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “largest,” “smallest,” and “sudden drop,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “largest contribution” for electricity output and “a gradual low production and consumption.” Repetition of “produced” and “consumed” also restricts variety. Choose terms that describe the data directly, such as “generated,” “used,” “output,” and “fell sharply,” while keeping collocations natural. Check country-name spelling and capitalisation, including “China,” “USA,” and “Korea,” and avoid joining “Korea” and “rep” with a comma.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, with an attempt at a more complex contrast in “while Korea…”. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “China had produced… and consumed…” uses an awkward tense choice for reporting chart data, while “USA also holding the second place produced…” lacks a clear finite verb structure. The final sentence, “these country had a gradual low production,” has problems with agreement and sentence construction. There are also inconsistent spaces before punctuation. Practise accurate present-simple reporting structures, such as “China produced… and consumed…,” and build complete sentences around comparisons.
