Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report figures for all ten countries, including the leading values for China and the low production and consumption figures for Korea. However, the overview is too limited to summarise the main patterns: saying China is the peak and Korea the lowest does not capture the large gap between China and the United States and the remaining countries, or the fact that Germany is the only country whose consumption exceeds production. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: China’s production is 5,398, not 5,388, and Canada is not the lowest-ranked country. The response therefore only partially fulfils the task. Select the most important comparisons and state them accurately in a clear overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and it attempts to connect comparisons using phrases such as “In contrast,” “whereas” and “In addition.” However, the information does not progress in a consistently clear way: countries are presented in a mixed order, and the final paragraph becomes a long sequence of figures. Some linking is awkward or repetitive, such as “The other country” and “Then the other country,” while unclear phrasing like “the consumption rank is 3,866” makes relationships harder to follow. Group the countries logically—for example, the two leading producers and then the lower figures—and use shorter sentences with clear references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “peak point” and “in contrast,” so the reader can generally identify the topic and comparisons. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for describing data. “The peak point is China” and “the lowest point” are imprecise, while “consumption rank” incorrectly suggests a ranking rather than a quantity. There are also noticeable spelling and number-formatting problems, such as “thr production,” “KWH,” and “449,5followed.” Use standard terms such as “highest,” “lowest,” “output” and “figure,” and keep country names and decimal notation consistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, including a sentence with “whereas,” but the range of sentence structures remains limited and longer sentences are often difficult to control. Errors in sentence formation and punctuation occur throughout: “In this countries the peak point is china” lacks correct agreement and article use, and “the Brazil country and production is…” does not form a clear grammatical clause. Commas are often missing after introductory phrases, and several sentences run together, as in the sequence beginning “Then the other country is Japan.” Practise building complete subject–verb clauses, checking singular and plural forms, and separating related figures into shorter sentences.
