Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You provide an overview identifying China as the largest producer and consumer, Korea as the lowest producer, and Germany as the exception where consumption exceeds production. These are relevant main features. However, several important comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: the US consumption is given as 1,038 rather than 3,866, and Russia is described as the lowest despite being third in both measures. The Korea figures are also reversed, and France’s consumption is reported as 46.2 instead of 462.9. The response therefore only partly reports the chart accurately, and some selected details do not support the overview. To strengthen the report, check each figure against the chart and compare the leading countries with the much lower values for the remaining countries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Looking at the details” signal the stages of the report. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven: the comparison between the US and Russia is difficult to follow because the figures and ranking are mixed up, while the final paragraph moves from Germany to Korea and then France and Brazil without a clear organising principle. “However” and “While” do not always establish a clear relationship between the points that follow. Group countries by a meaningful feature, such as the highest figures and the lower-ranking countries, and use linking phrases to make each comparison explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some appropriate chart-reporting vocabulary, including “recorded,” “approximately,” “stood at,” and “slight difference.” This shows an adequate range for describing figures and comparisons. However, several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision, including “Consimption,” “cosumption,” “Addiontally,” and “differnece.” Some expressions are also awkward or imprecise: “had consume the more electricity” and “which lowest from all other countries” do not communicate the intended comparison naturally. Use standard forms such as “consumption” and “additionally,” and choose precise comparison language such as “consumed more than it produced” or “had the lowest production.” Proofreading spelling and collocations would make the report clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast in “Germany consumed around 582.5 which was more electricity than it produced” and the clause beginning “whereas.” Some sentence structures communicate the intended meaning, but errors in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “Germany had consume” should use a past-tense form, and “which lowest from all other countries” lacks the grammatical structure needed to complete the comparison. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “Overall, It” and country names such as “china” and “russia.” Aim for complete, controlled clauses—for example, “Germany’s consumption was higher than its production”—and check verb forms and punctuation when joining ideas.
