Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview by noting that China leads in both production and consumption. You also include several figures and comparisons, such as Korea’s production and consumption and the values for France, Brazil and Germany. However, the response only partially selects and reports the main features: the claim that Korea is “the least” is not accurate for both measures, since Germany’s production is lower, and Korea is not one third of China’s figures. The explanation that China’s position is due to population growth is not shown by the chart. Focus on the clear ranking and the large gap between China and the United States, and describe the small differences between production and consumption without adding causes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening, an overview and further paragraphs, so the reader can recognise an attempt to organise the report. Some comparisons are grouped together, including the countries ranked seventh to ninth and those ranked third to sixth. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the discussion moves from Korea to Germany, Brazil and France, then to other rankings, and finally returns to broad claims about China and Korea. Connect each paragraph to a clear purpose, such as an overview followed by comparisons among the highest and lower-ranked countries. Linking words such as “Whereas,” “On the other hand” and “Therefore” are sometimes used where the relationship between ideas is unclear, making cohesion feel repetitive or mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “percentage,” and “similar,” and you attempt to describe comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the most efficient used of electricity” does not accurately describe the figures, while “kilowatts” is not the unit shown; the chart reports billion kWh. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “electricty,” “perecntage,” “Germary” and “identitical.” Use precise terms such as “generated,” “consumed,” “amount” and “billion kWh,” and check spelling and collocations so that comparisons are expressed clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including contrast clauses beginning “Whereas” and “Although,” as well as sentences with figures. However, many sentences contain errors in agreement, verb forms, articles or sentence construction, and these sometimes make the intended meaning hard to follow. For example, “The bar chart illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, and “China has acquired the highest produced and consumed” does not form a grammatical comparison. “There are top ten countries with significantly utilized the electricity” also combines incompatible structures. Practise building clear sentences with a subject, verb and comparison, such as “China produced and consumed the most electricity.” Use complex clauses only when their grammatical relationship is clear, and check punctuation and sentence boundaries.
