Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s main leaders and correctly report China’s figures (5,398 and 5,322), the United States’ figures, and Korea as the lowest producer and consumer. You also notice Germany’s unusual result, where consumption exceeds production. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: the chart shows data for 2014, not 2024, and the figures do not show a gradual decrease across all the other countries, since Germany’s consumption is higher than several countries ranked above it. The response ends before the Germany comparison is explained and omits useful middle-ranking comparisons. It is also 7 words below the required minimum. Develop the overview and support it with accurate comparisons across the full chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, an overview and a paragraph giving figures for China, the United States and Korea. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is limited: the response moves from the overview to the highest and lowest countries without grouping or comparing the remaining data, and it ends abruptly at “germony had exceptional case w”. Linking words such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile,” and “While” are used, but “While” begins a fragment and the transitions do not consistently clarify relationships between ideas. Use complete paragraphs to group the leading countries, the lower figures and Germany’s exception, and finish each comparison clearly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “ranked,” “figure” and “rate,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling errors affect readability, including “consupstion,” “consuption,” “rathar,” “grater,” “consifered” and “germony.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “considered at the top ranked country” and “least ranked country”; “ranked first” and “ranked last” would be clearer. Avoid repeating “rate” when reporting values and use “amount” or “output” where appropriate. More accurate spelling and natural collocations would make the comparisons easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast with “except Germany,” but control is inconsistent. For example, “China and United States were considered at the top ranked country” has problems with the article, number agreement and sentence construction. “While United States ranked as 2nd country” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, and “The production rate of Korea was 485.1 and the consuption rate was 449.5” would be clearer with the unit stated and parallel phrasing. The final sentence is incomplete, which also leaves the grammar unfinished. Practise complete sentence patterns, articles and singular/plural agreement, and check punctuation around contrast clauses. These changes will help you express the data more reliably.
