Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task requirements by summarizing the main features of the chart. You have identified key trends, such as the growth in the highest income bracket and the relative stability of the middle-income groups. However, there are significant inaccuracies in your data reporting. For example, you state that the number of households with 1 million or more income reached 32 million in 2015, which is a misinterpretation of the data provided. Additionally, the description of the 25k-49k category is somewhat confusing. To improve, ensure that your data points are accurately transcribed from the chart and that your comparisons are precise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'Looking first', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition 'with the time house numbers' is unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your referencing (e.g., 'the number') clearly points back to the specific data being discussed, rather than using vague descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing such as 'number of households' and 'annual income'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the table graph compare' (should be 'compares') and 'stopped at 29 millions households number'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and avoid redundant phrasing. Using more precise terminology for data trends will help demonstrate a better range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('households numbers... were'), incorrect verb tenses ('was keep increasing'), and punctuation errors. For example, 'reached it's peak' contains an unnecessary apostrophe. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb forms are consistent throughout the report.
