Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While you have identified some data points, the summary is incomplete and lacks a clear overview of the trends across the three years. You have focused on specific figures but failed to synthesize the information or make meaningful comparisons between the income brackets. To improve, you must ensure you cover all categories and provide a clear, concise summary of the main features, as well as meeting the length requirement to allow for sufficient detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is written as a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences, making the writing feel disjointed. For example, the transition between the 2007 data and the 2011 data is abrupt. To achieve a higher band, you should use paragraphing to separate your introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Additionally, incorporating linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'meanwhile' would help guide the reader through your analysis more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'number', 'people', and 'income'. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'ups and downs' and 'it effects a huge', which are not appropriate for an academic report. You need to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant increase'. Improving your range of descriptive language will help you convey the data more precisely and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the number... are increase') and incorrect verb forms ('is decrease'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and pluralization. Developing more complex structures, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, will also help improve your score.
