Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the task requirements by summarizing the main features of the chart. You have identified key trends, such as the highest income group reaching 33 million households in 2015. However, the report is somewhat mechanical in its presentation of data. While you have made some comparisons, the analysis could be more insightful by grouping the data more effectively to highlight the overall shifts across the three years. Some figures are presented in a list-like fashion, which limits the depth of the analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that the most significant trends are clearly highlighted in the overview and supported by well-selected data points throughout the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'While', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the 2007 data and the 2011/2015 data could be smoother. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as when you mention 'it was around 27 million' without explicitly stating which group you are referring to. Improving the variety of cohesive links and ensuring clear pronoun referencing would enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'households', and 'annual income'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'categorie' (category), 'goup' (group), and 'slighlty' (slightly), which occur frequently enough to be noticeable. Additionally, there are some minor word choice issues, such as 'were approximately same', which should be 'remained approximately the same'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, the range is somewhat limited, and the recurring spelling mistakes prevent a higher score. Focusing on accuracy in spelling and using more precise collocations would improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'number of household' instead of 'households' and '27 millions' instead of '27 million'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances where sentence boundaries are unclear. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on consistent subject-verb agreement and ensure that plural nouns are used correctly after quantifiers. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help raise your score.
