Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task but fails to accurately report the data provided in the chart. The introduction and body paragraphs contain significant inaccuracies, such as claiming the chart shows people buying houses, which is not supported by the data regarding annual income. Furthermore, the data points selected are confusing and do not clearly represent the main trends or comparisons between the income brackets. The conclusion repeats information rather than summarizing the key features. To improve, focus on accurately transcribing the figures from the chart and identifying the most significant changes or trends over the three years rather than speculating on the context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt, and the sentences within the paragraphs lack clear cohesive links. For example, the phrase 'Going into depth' is used, but the following information is disjointed and difficult to follow. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'the highest proportion of household'. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' would help create a more professional and readable flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic phrases like 'highest proportion of household' and 'annual income'. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'the amount of household', which is not the correct collocation for referring to groups of people or statistical data. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'peaked', or 'a significant increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'all the persons want'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'this same thing is happen in US'). The sentence construction is mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the run-on sentences in the second and third paragraphs. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that verbs are correctly conjugated and articles are used appropriately before nouns.
