Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified some main features, the overview is missing, and the description of the data is fragmented and lacks analytical depth. You have attempted to report the figures for 2007, 2011, and 2015, but the comparisons are underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the main trends (e.g., the stability of most income brackets versus the growth in the highest bracket) and ensure the response meets the minimum length requirement to allow for a full development of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical (e.g., 'in 2007', 'in 2011', 'but in 2015'). There is a lack of linking words to connect ideas within sentences, making the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is disjointed. To improve, use a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'in contrast', 'similarly', or 'whereas' to better connect your observations.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying heavily on the words provided in the prompt. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'iaxies' (axes), 'increa' (increase), 'differenec' (difference), and 'conculsion' (conclusion). The phrasing 'last but not the least' is an informal idiom that is not suitable for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'remained stable', 'fluctuated', or 'experienced a marginal increase', and proofread carefully to avoid spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'which house hold had... reaches'), incorrect article usage, and sentence fragments. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and practicing the use of complex structures like relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to add variety to your writing.
