Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the highest and lowest income categories. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, data-driven comparison. For instance, the claim that income categories remained the same is not fully supported by the data, and some observations are imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific data points to support your comparisons and ensure that the trends described are accurately reflected in the provided chart. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant shifts over the period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. There are instances where the flow between sentences is disjointed, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. Additionally, the punctuation is inconsistent, with unnecessary periods appearing in the middle of sentences (e.g., 'maximum.in', 'all.these'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring correct punctuation would significantly enhance the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main points clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'annual income' and 'per annum'. However, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal increase'. There are also minor errors in word choice and phrasing that, while not impeding communication, prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the different bars... shows', '30 million houses has') and punctuation (e.g., the misuse of periods within sentences). These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree and pay closer attention to sentence boundaries and punctuation marks. A more careful proofreading process would help eliminate these recurring slips.
