Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the increase in the highest income bracket and the general trends across the years. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the statement that 'all house hold earns a smart income' is subjective and not supported by the data. Furthermore, the description of the middle groups is vague, and the comparison between years lacks precision. To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping the data more logically and ensuring that the figures cited accurately reflect the chart provided, rather than making general observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally mechanical (e.g., 'In 2007', 'In 2011'). There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect the comparisons effectively. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'househplds', 'feagure', 'catagory', and 'avobe'. Additionally, the word choice is often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'earn' and 'increased'. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'surpassed'. Focusing on accurate spelling and using more academic collocations will help you convey your points with greater clarity and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'households earns', 'figure... were'), incorrect tense usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'which was high compares to 2007'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels clunky. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data. Proofreading for these common errors will help you achieve a more polished and accurate piece of writing.
