Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the chart and makes relevant comparisons. However, the use of non-standard terminology like 'lakh' (an Indian numbering system) is inappropriate for an international IELTS exam and causes confusion. The overview is somewhat unclear due to these terminology issues, and the description of the data contains some inaccuracies regarding the years (e.g., mentioning 'next year 2011' when the data is for 2007, 2011, and 2015). While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in data reporting and the use of non-standard units limit the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', and 'However' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas is hindered by the confusing terminology used to describe the income brackets. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different data categories.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and contains significant errors in terminology. The use of 'lakh' is not appropriate for an international audience and should be replaced with standard numerical expressions. There is also a misuse of terms like 'landlords' to refer to 'households', which is factually incorrect in this context. While the student attempts to use some descriptive language, the frequent misuse of basic terms and the reliance on repetitive phrasing prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the income range... was remained stood' and 'it slightly decline'. Subject-verb agreement is often inconsistent, and there are issues with tense usage when describing historical data. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation is noticeable and occasionally impedes the reader's flow.
