Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the trends for different income brackets. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the $100,000+ category is clear, but the reporting of the $75,000-$99,999 and $25,000-$49,999 categories is confusing and lacks precision. The student attempts to highlight key trends, but the lack of clarity in data interpretation prevents a higher score. The overview is present but could be more effectively synthesized to highlight the most significant changes across the three years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'The begin with' (should be 'To begin with') and 'after it grow slightly'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing, making the flow feel disjointed. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are not always used appropriately to connect the data points logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'amount which was' are used repeatedly, which restricts the range of expression. There are also inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'climb with high amount' and 'accounted with', which do not accurately describe statistical trends. While the student manages to communicate the basic information, the lack of variety and the presence of collocation errors limit the lexical score. More precise terminology for describing trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'surged') is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('There are income is showed', 'households... was almost same'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are awkward, such as 'The table chart illustrates how many households which was located in United States'. While the student attempts some complex structures, they are often faulty. The control of basic grammar is inconsistent, and punctuation errors are noticeable throughout the text.
