Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you attempt to describe the chart, the information provided is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, you mention '100,000 or more' in 2007, which is not clearly supported by the data provided. The main features are not clearly identified, and the summary is vague. To improve, you must ensure you reach the word count and focus on reporting specific, accurate data points from the chart rather than making general, unclear statements. You need to provide a clearer overview of the trends across the three years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs do not flow logically. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often misused, such as 'Moreover' and 'To conclude this chart', which do not effectively link the ideas. The progression of information is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the data. To improve, focus on using transition words to connect sentences and ensure each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that contributes to the overall summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'number', 'income', and 'increase/decrease' without variation. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'worth is on top' and 'incresement', which is not a standard English word. The lack of precise terminology to describe statistical data (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'peaked') makes the report sound unprofessional. You should aim to expand your vocabulary by learning specific terms used for describing charts and graphs, and focus on using words accurately in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response that often impede communication. Examples include 'This display how many income increase', 'the household number are less', and 'its about $75,000'. The sentence structures are simple and often contain errors in subject-verb agreement and tense usage. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which limits your ability to express relationships between the data points. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions before attempting more complex structures.
