Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to clearly identify the main features or trends. The overview is confusing, mentioning 'four types of households' and 'three kinds of countries,' which is inaccurate as the chart displays income brackets in the US. The data reporting is inconsistent and contains significant inaccuracies, such as misquoting percentages and income ranges (e.g., '25% 100,00 dollars'). The comparison between years is weak, and the lack of clarity regarding the data points makes it difficult for the reader to follow the information presented. To improve, focus on identifying the highest and lowest categories and describing the clear shifts over the three years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link the data points, making the text feel like a list of disconnected sentences rather than a coherent report. Referencing is often unclear, and the transition between the years is mechanical. The use of 'the second year is' and 'the third year is' is repetitive. While the paragraphing is present, the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical flow, which hinders the overall readability of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as using 'original pay' instead of 'annual income' and 'countries' instead of 'years'. The student struggles to express numerical data accurately, leading to confusion. There is no attempt to use less common vocabulary or precise terminology related to data description. The errors in basic terminology and the inability to correctly label the income categories significantly impede the reader's understanding of the information provided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response relies on simple sentence structures, and even these contain frequent errors. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the chart describe'), incorrect preposition usage, and faulty punctuation. The misuse of numbers and currency symbols (e.g., '100,00 dollars') further complicates the grammar. Complex structures are absent, and the errors are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader. Significant attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading for grammatical accuracy is required to reach a higher band.
