Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, but it is incomplete as the final sentence is cut off mid-thought. While you identify key trends, the overview is somewhat simplistic and lacks a clear, analytical summary of the most significant changes. The data reporting is generally accurate, but the lack of a conclusion due to the incomplete sentence prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview that highlights the most striking differences between the years and ensure the response is fully finished.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'in 2007', 'in 2011', 'in 2015'). The progression of ideas is logical, but the abrupt ending significantly impacts the overall coherence of the final paragraph. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, and ensure that your paragraphs are balanced and complete.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'categories', 'variation', and 'marginally'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'number of US houses income' instead of 'number of US households by income' and 'highest umber' (likely a typo for 'number'). The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focus on using more precise terminology related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'peaked'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the number of houses with more income is increase' (should be 'has increased') and 'there number increased' (should be 'their number'). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are inconsistent throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the clarity of your writing. Focus on proofreading for basic tense and pronoun errors.
