Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 82 words long. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly after introducing the year 2011 without providing any data or analysis for that year or 2015. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The overview provided is fragmented and lacks a clear summary of the main trends or significant comparisons across the three years. To improve, you must complete the full analysis of all data points and ensure the response meets the length requirement to allow for a full development of the main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks logical organization and progression. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as starting a sentence with 'Therefore' when it does not follow logically from the previous point. Paragraphing is ineffective because the response is incomplete and lacks a proper structure. The transition between the overview and the body is abrupt, and the text ends mid-thought. To improve, you should use a clear structure: an introduction, an overview of main trends, and two body paragraphs for detailed comparisons, using a wider range of linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', and 'subsequently' to connect ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'income residence' instead of 'households' and 'most highest', which is grammatically incorrect. The phrasing 'having a less population amongs all other' is awkward and imprecise. To achieve a higher band score, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'. Focus on using precise terminology for statistical data and avoid repeating the same words throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'income residence lived... and have a 29 million population', and incorrect sentence structures. The use of punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalization and missing articles. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses for reporting past data, and ensure you use articles and prepositions accurately. Practicing complex sentence structures will also help improve your range.
