Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to accurately report the main features. The interpretation of the chart is significantly flawed; for example, you describe the 'worth' of households, but the chart tracks the 'number of households' in millions. Furthermore, the data points cited are frequently incorrect, such as claiming the low-income group increased by 25 million in 2007, which does not align with the provided chart. The overview is confusing and lacks a clear summary of the trends. To improve, focus on accurately identifying the categories and the specific figures provided in the visual, and ensure your overview highlights the most significant changes over the period rather than listing incorrect data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by inaccurate data reporting and confusing transitions. While you use cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'However', they are often used incorrectly or do not logically connect the ideas. The referencing is also unclear, as it is difficult to follow which income group you are referring to at various points. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that your linking words accurately reflect the relationship between the ideas being presented.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and often misused. You frequently use the word 'worth' to describe the number of households, which is inaccurate. Other terms like 'rose instantly' or 'price ratio' are not appropriate for describing statistical data in a bar chart. There are also spelling errors such as 'serveral' and 'homeholds'. To reach a higher band, you should learn specific collocations for describing charts, such as 'increased significantly', 'remained stable', or 'fluctuated', and ensure you use the correct terminology for the data being presented (e.g., 'number of households' rather than 'worth').

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the price of mid range houses remain'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'the ratio of high range houses rocketed' when describing a future trend or general observation), and missing articles. Sentence structures are generally simple and repetitive. The lack of control over basic grammar, such as 'the the worthes', suggests a need for a thorough review of sentence construction and proofreading. Focusing on basic accuracy before attempting more complex structures will help improve your score.
