Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the chart, but it lacks a clear overview and fails to present the data in a structured, analytical way. While it mentions some figures, the information is presented in a single, dense paragraph without clear grouping or logical comparison. The description of the trends is somewhat inaccurate, particularly the claim that the lower income brackets 'remain the same,' which ignores the visual fluctuations shown in the chart. To improve, you should provide a clear introductory summary of the overall trends and group the data into logical categories (e.g., rising vs. stable income groups) rather than listing individual data points in a narrative format.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is written as a single, long, run-on sentence, which makes it very difficult to follow. There is a lack of paragraphing, and the use of cohesive devices is extremely limited and repetitive (e.g., 'and in this', 'the same goes with'). The progression of ideas is unclear because the text lacks punctuation and logical connectors to separate distinct points. To achieve a higher score, you must use full stops to create separate sentences and employ a wider range of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to guide the reader through your analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple phrases like 'the number which were earning' and 'there were'. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Bar Chat' (instead of 'chart'), 'a huge raise' (instead of 'a significant increase'), and 'remain the constant'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision. To improve, focus on learning specific terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'remain stable', 'peak', and 'decline', and ensure you use nouns and verbs correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammar is significantly flawed, characterized by a lack of punctuation and frequent run-on sentences. There are numerous errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'households which were earning... reamin the same') and tense usage. The sentence structure is simplistic and often fragmented, which impedes clarity. Many sentences lack basic grammatical components, making the text difficult to parse. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practicing the correct use of articles and pluralization. Reducing sentence length will also help you avoid these complex errors.
