Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the chart, but there are significant inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, you state that the highest value is for those earning over $100,000, but the chart shows the $100,000+ category is actually the highest in 2015, while the <$25,000 category is often higher in other years. Furthermore, the description of the trends is confusing and contains contradictory information (e.g., stating a category is the lowest when it is not). You have identified some key features, but the lack of precision in data reporting and the failure to clearly compare the categories across the three years prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While you use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Whereas', they are often used incorrectly or do not logically connect the sentences. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the data. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical cohesion, as sentences often jump between different income brackets without a clear analytical focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with several spelling errors such as 'crysatl', 'begning', 'househods', and 'higest'. You rely on basic descriptors and struggle with accurate terminology for describing trends. Phrases like 'highest value carried by' and 'calibrated into millions' are unnatural. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations required for a higher band. To improve, focus on learning specific vocabulary for describing data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('the figure show decrease'), tense usage ('which will remain similar'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which impedes readability. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that cause confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and spaces. A focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement is essential.
