Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the chart, providing a general overview and selecting specific data points from 2007, 2011, and 2015. However, there are several inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the student states that the lowest number of households overall was in 2011, which does not accurately reflect the specific income bracket trends shown. Additionally, some figures are misquoted or confused, such as claiming that $25,000–$49,999 in 2015 was 'the twice of $75,000–$99,999, which was 15 and 30 millions' (the categories in 2015 were actually around 28.5 and 15 million, so while the ratio is roughly double, the explanation is slightly confused). The overview is also overly simplistic and partially inaccurate. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, starting with an introduction and overview, followed by body paragraphs detailing the data. However, the logical progression is weak, and sentences often feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'Turning towards the details,' 'However, In 2007...', and 'Apart from this, In 2015...'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical transitions make the progression difficult to follow at times. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks fluency. This performance aligns best with the Band 5.0 descriptors for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to data reporting, such as 'annual income,' 'overview,' and 'maximum number.' However, there are frequent spelling errors ('compaired' for compared, 'appearent' for apparent, 'housholds' for households, 'higheset' for highest, 'Nerverhless' for Nevertheless, 'maximun' for maximum). Word choice and phrasing are sometimes unnatural or imprecise, such as 'The value of US households' instead of 'The number of US households.' The range is limited and repetition occurs. These frequent errors in spelling and word choice place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many complex sentences contain grammatical errors or awkward phrasing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'the maximum number of housholds are' and tense/preposition errors such as 'in 2007 in $100,000 or more was higheset' and 'The annual income of US households were 22 millions'. Punctuation is also erratic with random capitalization ('The value', 'In 2007, less than...'). While simple sentences are generally understandable, frequent errors in complex structures cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.
