Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The student attempts to address the chart, providing some figures and making basic references to the years 2007, 2011, and 2015. However, there are significant flaws in the data representation and understanding of the chart. The units on the Y-axis represent millions of households, but the student repeatedly confuses these figures with percentages (e.g., 'atleast 14% of proportion', 'around 27% of portion'). Furthermore, some of the data points cited are inaccurate or poorly structured, making it difficult to follow the overall trends clearly. An overview is attempted, but it is vague and factually misleading. Because of the persistent confusion between absolute numbers of households and percentages, along with imprecise data reporting, the task achievement is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, but the internal logical progression within paragraphs is weak. Sentences are strung together using basic or repetitive linking words like 'moreover', 'although', and 'in it'. The referencing and pronoun use are frequently unclear, such as 'in first year which was 2007' and 'The next year was 2011, in it 28 % of portion create'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information lacks a coherent strategy, moving awkwardly between years and income brackets without a clear comparative focus. Cohesive devices are often used inaccurately, creating a mechanical and disjointed reading experience.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. The student repeatedly misuses terms related to statistics and quantities, such as 'proportion', 'portion', 'majority', and 'create' when discussing households and income brackets. There are also awkward phrasings like 'minimum numbers were taken by'. Spelling and word formation errors are present, and the range of vocabulary is inadequate for a precise discussion of graphical data. The student struggles to employ less common lexical items accurately, leading to frequent instances where the intended meaning is obscured or confused by poor word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and clumsy attempts at complex forms that result in severe structural errors. There are numerous grammatical inaccuracies, including subject-verb agreement issues ('every category ... contains', 'minimum numbers were taken'), missing articles, and faulty punctuation (such as comma splices). For example, 'At is crystal clear from the chart, in first year which was 2007, less than 25,000 $ contained by 25 majority of people...' demonstrates a complete breakdown in clause structure and passive voice formation. Errors are frequent and often impede the reader's understanding.
