Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart, providing a general overview and citing data points for 2007, 2011, and 2015. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation and reporting throughout the response. For instance, the student states that in 2015 'there was highest number of households have rose their income more than $100,000' (referring to 33.5 million), but misinterprets other figures, such as stating that '14 millions of houses have chase less than $99,999 and more than $75,000' where the actual figure is around 15 million. Additionally, the phrasing is frequently confusing and unclear, leading to an incomplete or inaccurate representation of the visual data. The overview is also weak and lacks precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, attempting a logical progression from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing different years. However, paragraphing is poorly executed; the second paragraph begins with 'overall,' but is placed awkwardly, and the transition between ideas is frequently jarring. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'After this,' 'Nonetheless,' and 'on the other side in the same year.' Referencing is also confusing at times, making the overall structure difficult to follow smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and heavily repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors that obscure meaning. Examples include 'annual revenue' instead of annual income, 'diffrent' (spelling error), 'have rose their income' (incorrect collocation and grammar), 'chase less than' instead of earn, and 'unsetisfied income' (incorrect word choice). Less common lexical items are attempted, but they are almost always used inaccurately or unidiomatically, causing strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. There is a very limited range of accurate sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. Numerous basic grammatical errors are present, including subject-verb agreement issues ('number of households have rose'), tense confusion ('was remaining', 'was recoreded in 2015 by hiting'), incorrect prepositions, and severe punctuation errors. These persistent errors frequently impede communication and require the reader to guess the intended meaning.
