Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart, providing figures for various income brackets across the specified years. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation and reporting. For instance, the student states that 'aroundly same as both years numbers of households' and writes 'number of 20 millions families has around $74,999' when the chart consistently shows 21 million households for that category across all three years. While an overview is attempted ('Overall the, the large number of household has highest annual income in 2015'), it lacks clarity and precision. The development of ideas is hampered by vague descriptions and misread data points, resulting in a partial fulfillment of the task requirements, aligning with a Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is organised into rudimentary paragraphs, starting with an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor cohesion and confusing phrasing. Transitions between sentences are often awkward, such as starting the second paragraph with 'Overall the, the large number of household...' and the third paragraph with 'Moving to the details, In year 2007...'. Referencing is unclear in places, and cohesive devices are misused or overused. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structuring of sentences makes the overall flow mechanical and difficult to follow, which corresponds to a Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite limited and repetitive, featuring basic terms like 'numbers of household', 'annual income', and 'families'. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'aroundly same' instead of 'approximately the same' and 'plummped' (plumped/plummeted incorrectly used for an increase). The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to convey the basic message, and word choices often show a lack of precision or awareness of collocation. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the score to a Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences or awkwardly joined clauses. Attempts at complex sentences frequently result in serious structural errors and non-standard phrasing, such as 'number of 20 millions families has around $74,999, less than 15 millions families has around $99,999 yearly wages'. Subject-verb agreement errors are frequent (e.g., 'numbers of household has', 'families has'). Punctuation is also problematic, with comma splices and run-on sentences. These persistent errors frequently cause strain for the reader, placing this performance at a Band 5.
