Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the main features of the bar chart regarding US households by income level in 2007, 2011, and 2015. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting and misinterpretation of the categories. For instance, the student states that the $25,000 to $49,999 category 'decreased by small portioned near to 20 million houses,' whereas the chart shows it went from 27 to 28.5 and then 28.5/28 million (remaining relatively stable rather than dropping to 20 million). Furthermore, the overall selection of features is somewhat disjointed, and the overview lacks clarity. While some comparisons are attempted, the numerous inaccuracies in reading the graph limit the task achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, overview, and body sections. However, logical progression is severely hindered by awkward transitional phrases like 'Further more provided data' and 'Overview, The people who have...'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks clear structure, making it difficult to follow the relationships between data points. Cohesive devices are either misused, overly mechanical, or absent, leading to a choppy and disjointed reading experience throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
Vocabulary is basic and heavily impacted by spelling and word-formation errors. Examples include 'yeared' instead of 'annual', 'numberes' for numbers, 'thousandes' for thousands, 'suden rosed' for sudden rise, 'categoies' for categories, 'miner' for minor, and 'wiht' for with. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated' and 'development', but the high frequency of lexical and spelling errors impedes understanding and restricts the vocabulary score to a lower band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in basic sentence structure, tense usage, and prepositions. Examples of erroneous constructions include 'The people who have income more the ten thousands are the highest', '75,000 dollar group considered to be lowest number of houses accounted with blow then 15 million', and 'there is stable development'. Simple sentence structures dominate, and attempts at complex structures are generally faulty. Punctuation is also erratic, with misplaced commas and lack of proper capitalization.
