Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response falls well short of the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, containing only 81 words. Furthermore, the content fails to accurately summarise the visual data provided. The student misidentifies the graph type as a line graph instead of a bar chart, misinterprets the categories as annual amounts of money used rather than household income brackets, and provides confused, largely incomprehensible data references such as '20027,2011,2015'. Because the response is severely underdeveloped, fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends, and contains major inaccuracies regarding the source material, it sits at the lowest performance levels.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The text is divided into short paragraphs, but the overall organisation lacks logical progression and clarity. Cohesive devices are minimal and used inaccurately, such as 'On the other side' and 'The graph allover show', which fail to establish clear relationships between ideas. The referencing is confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow any coherent argument or structure. While the text attempts an introductory statement and a concluding remark, the absence of a clear logical thread and mechanical transitions keeps the level of coherence very basic.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and heavily repetitive, with frequent word choice and spelling errors that strain the reader's understanding. Examples of inadequate lexical control include 'quateraly', 'exprensed', 'surged', and 'differnce'. The student attempts to use terms related to the chart, such as 'annual income' and 'households', but struggles with accurate collocation and word formation (e.g., writing 'amount of dollar used annualy'). The limited range and persistent inaccuracies prevent the writing from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of basic sentence attempts that contain frequent errors. There are notable issues with verb tenses and forms, such as 'It represent', 'it showes steady', and 'show balance figures', as well as missing prepositions and poor punctuation. Complex structures are either absent or faulty, and errors in basic agreement and sentence construction occur throughout the short response. These frequent mistakes cause considerable difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of English grammar.
