Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally and fails to meet the required word count minimum, stopping well short at eighty-three words. While the student attempts to present some information from the bar chart, such as identifying general categories and mentioning initial data points in two thousand and seven, the coverage remains incomplete and tangential. Important trends and comparisons across all three years are missing or inaccurate. For instance, the data points quoted do not align correctly with the visual data provided, and the response lacks a fully developed overview of the main features shown in the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation attempted in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The text is divided into a brief introduction and a single body paragraph, but the transitions between ideas feel abrupt and disconnected. Cohesive devices are minimal, inadequate, and sometimes inaccurate, such as the awkward mechanical linking phrases used to introduce data points. Paragraphing is insufficient for a standard academic task response, and referencing within the text is not always clear, making the overall logical flow difficult for the reader to follow throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, featuring noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are several severe spelling errors and incorrect word choices, such as 'illustras tethe', 'earn', and 'categorties', alongside awkward phrasing like 'was gone a steady trend'. The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to communicate the basic topic of income categories, but frequent lexical and spelling inaccuracies prevent the student from achieving a higher band in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentence forms with frequent errors in the attempts at complex sentences. There are notable issues with subject-verb agreement, prepositions within grammatical patterns, and awkward phrasing, such as '$100,000 or more annual income was atthe higest position around 27 millions'. Punctuation errors and missing spacing between words also persist throughout the text, causing noticeable difficulty and requiring effort from the reader to interpret the intended meaning.
