Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially, presenting some key features of the chart while containing noticeable inaccuracies and generalisations. While the student attempts to report data for different income brackets across the specified years, some figures are misread or unclearly expressed, such as stating that '30 million of poeple took this yearly income' for the highest bracket in 2007. The overview is underdeveloped, and the overall progression lacks a clear, accurate summary of the main trends. To reach a higher level, the response needs to select and accurately report the most prominent features with greater precision and provide a clearer, more fully developed overview of the chart's data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident through the use of introductory and concluding attempts, but the overall progression lacks clarity. The response is divided into paragraphs, yet the internal logical flow is hindered by awkward transitions and confusing sentence structures, such as 'Therefore, this job in 2015 shows the most income and more number of people.' Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately, and referencing between sentences is sometimes unclear, making it occasionally difficult to follow the relationships between the data points. Improving this criterion requires ensuring a logical sequence of ideas and using cohesive devices more naturally to guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common terms and numeric descriptions, but these are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and form, such as 'houshold', 'approximetly', 'vaulble', and 'durind'. These lexical slips and inaccuracies sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. To improve in this area, the student should expand their range of vocabulary related to data trends and check word forms and spelling carefully to ensure precise communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, relying mostly on basic sentence structures alongside faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including issues with articles ('the 100,000 income', 'the consider'), prepositions ('in beetween 2015 and 2011'), subject-verb agreement, and run-on phrasing. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. Enhancing control over basic grammatical structures, accurate punctuation, and prepositions within data descriptions is necessary for progression.
