Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the chart’s subject, the three years, and the existence of five income brackets. It also correctly recognises the lowest and highest categories, so the limited information is relevant. However, it does not summarise the main features or make comparisons: for example, it omits that the $100,000-or-more group rose to the highest figure in 2015, while the $50,000–$74,999 group stayed almost unchanged. No meaningful overview or supporting data is provided, and the response is 97 words below the required minimum. Develop a clear overview and report several key trends with approximate figures to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the chart and then mentions the lowest and highest income groups. This gives the reader a simple route through the limited content. However, the ideas are not developed into a coherent summary, and there is no clear overview followed by organised comparisons or supporting details. The phrase “during the three years that is in 2007,2011 and 2015” is awkwardly connected, while the final sentence does not build on the first with any data or trend. Use separate sentences or paragraphs for an overview and key comparisons, and connect them with clear references such as “by contrast” or “over the period.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “income bracket,” “households,” and “annual income,” and the reader can identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is very limited, with repeated reliance on basic labels rather than language for describing data. Several spelling errors—“annnul,” “lesss,” and “annaul”—and the informal or imprecise phrase “the lowest one” reduce accuracy and polish. Build a small set of precise terms for trends and comparisons, such as “remained stable,” “increased,” and “the largest category,” and check spelling and standard forms. This would make the description clearer and more appropriate for an academic chart summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts connected sentences and uses a relative clause in “those which have annual income more than $100,000,” showing some ability to extend a basic sentence. However, grammatical control is uneven. In “the three years that is in 2007, 2011 and 2015,” the verb does not agree with the plural subject, and the construction is not well formed. “There are five different income bracket” also has a plural agreement error, while sentence openings and punctuation are inconsistent. Most structures are simple, and the response does not demonstrate a reliable range of accurate sentence forms. Practise accurate plural agreement and use straightforward patterns such as “The chart compares…” and “The number of households earning… was…”.
