Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You make an attempt to describe the chart and include an overview, noting that the highest income group was largest in 2015. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: the lowest category in 2011 was the $75,000–$99,999 group, but the response calls it the “4th stage” without identifying the income range. Several key trends are misreported or too vague. For example, the first income group did not simply “fell” across the period; it rose from 25 million to about 28 million. The $50,000–$74,999 group remained stable at around 21 million, rather than decreasing. To improve, identify categories by income range, report the main comparisons accurately, and support the overview with selected figures rather than unclear references to “steps” or “stages.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an attempted structure, with an opening, an overview, and paragraphs referring to 2007, 2011 and 2015. This gives the reader some indication of how the information is being presented. However, ideas are not arranged in a clear progression, and several sentences are difficult to follow, such as “In first less then $25000 fell or $25000-$49,999 increased and third or foure decreased.” The repeated transitions “First of all,” “On the other hand,” and “Finally” do not establish clear comparisons, while references such as “first,” “third,” and “fifth” are hard to track. Group the data by meaningful trends, use clear links between comparisons, and make each paragraph develop one identifiable point.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “chart,” “income,” “households,” “increased,” and “decreased,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or phrases make the meaning unclear. “Householdings” is not the appropriate term here, “annual money” is imprecise, and “fifth stage” does not clearly identify an income category. There are also spelling and form errors, including “less then” and “foure.” Use the chart’s income bands directly and choose precise language for describing quantities and trends. For instance, refer to “the highest income group” or “the number of households,” rather than relying on ordinal labels such as “first” and “fifth.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to form longer sentences and use time references, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make the intended comparisons difficult to understand. Examples include “The chart illustrates the number of household in US” and “first two stages are same,” where number agreement and sentence structure are problematic. Tense and verb forms are also unreliable, as in “first less then $25000 fell,” and punctuation is inconsistent, with spaces before full stops and unnecessary capital letters after commas. Most sentences do not show a clear, accurate structure. Practise writing short comparison sentences with a subject, verb and figure first, then combine related points using accurate clauses and consistent past-tense forms.
