Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart illustrates the number of household in the United States cataegorized by their annual income across three separate years:2007,2011 and 2025.
Overall the most significant trend is the substantial growth in highest income bracket ($100,000 or more) which become largest group by 2015.While lowest income bracket remained relatively stable, the middle-income groups experienced a general decline over the eight-year period.
Looking at the highest earners, the number of houshold making $100,000 or more started at roughly 28 million in 2007.This figure remainstable in 2011 before surging to approximately 33 million by 2015.In contrast the lowest income group show little variation, hovering between 25 and 27 million households across all three years.
Regarding the middle income brackets, most saw same pattern in all years the $2,5000-$49,000 remain same in almost before surging to 30 million in 2011 and the $50,000-$74,999 remain same in all years nearly 21 million.Meanwhile the $75,000-$99,999 continue to fall before rising to 15 milion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You provide an overview and identify the key rise in the $100,000-or-more group, which becomes the largest category in 2015. You also note that the $50,000–$74,999 group is stable and that the $75,000–$99,999 group ends at about 15 million. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: the chart covers 2015, not 2025; the highest-income figure falls from about 29.5 million to 27.5 million in 2011 before rising to 33.5 million, rather than remaining stable; and the $25,000–$49,999 group rises to about 29.5 million in 2011 and then falls slightly. The lowest group ranges around 25–28.5 million, not 25–27 million. More precise reporting of these changes would make the summary more complete and reliable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping the income categories. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information, and transitions such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “Meanwhile” help signal comparisons. The overview also establishes a useful main trend before the details. However, the final paragraph is difficult to follow because several categories and changes are compressed into one sentence, especially “most saw same pattern in all years.” The comparison between the $25,000–$49,999 and $50,000–$74,999 groups would be clearer if each trend were stated separately and in chronological order. Check that linking phrases accurately express the relationship between figures, rather than joining details mechanically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some suitable chart vocabulary, including “income bracket,” “substantial growth,” “surging,” “hovering,” and “variation,” which helps describe trends rather than simply list figures. There is also an attempt to vary wording for the categories and changes. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “cataegorized,” “houshold,” “remainstable,” and “milion.” Some phrases are also unclear or imprecise, such as “most saw same pattern” and “remain same in almost,” making the data harder to interpret. Use accurate category labels and standard trend collocations, for example, “remained broadly stable” or “rose before declining slightly.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise verbs for each movement would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “While lowest income bracket remained relatively stable” and the comparison introduced by “In contrast.” These structures are appropriate for describing a chart. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries occur throughout. For example, “which become largest group” needs a past-tense verb and an article, while “This figure remainstable” has an incorrect verb form and lacks a space. “The lowest income group show” also has subject–verb disagreement. Several sentences run together without spaces after punctuation, and the final sentence contains unclear clause structure. Build accuracy by checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed past-tense verb.
