Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover all five income groups and include figures for each year, so the response contains relevant detail. The overview also identifies the 2015 peak for households earning $100,000 or more and the low point for the $75,000–$99,999 group. However, the overview is unclear and does not bring out the main pattern that the highest-income group rose markedly by 2015, while the $50,000–$74,999 group stayed stable. Some figures are inaccurate: the under-$25,000 category was about 28 million in 2015, not 27 million, and the $25,000–$49,999 category was about 27 million in 2007, not 26 million. The final sentence gives the 2015 high but does not clearly describe the earlier rise and fall. Select and compare the most important trends more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an opening, an overview and a body that broadly follows the income categories, which gives it some organisation. However, progression is difficult to follow because several long sentences combine multiple years and categories, and the links between ideas are often mechanical or unclear. For example, “from 2007 where recorded roughly 26 million…” does not clearly connect the 2007 figure to the later comparison, while “it rose, dropped and finally reached” leaves the reader unsure which values are being described. Paragraphing is limited, and punctuation—especially missing spaces after full stops—further weakens the flow. Use separate, clearly structured paragraphs for the overview and grouped comparisons, and make each sentence’s subject explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “households,” “income,” “accounted,” and “decreased,” and the income bands are generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, sometimes making the meaning hard to interpret. Phrases such as “highest income detected,” “households…were sported in chart,” and “earned to less than” are not natural ways to describe the data. Spelling errors, including “availlabled,” “dollor,” and “dolloar,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise reporting verbs and standard chart language, such as “stood at,” “rose to,” and “remained stable,” while checking spelling and avoiding repeated, awkward formulations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to use longer sentences and contrast, for example with “while” and “whereas,” but these structures are often faulty, and simple sentence patterns dominate. Errors in sentence formation and verb forms appear throughout: “overall it can seen” lacks the required auxiliary, and “there were recorded to 25 million households” has an incorrect construction. Agreement and number are also inconsistent, as in “28 million household,” while articles and punctuation are frequently missing or misplaced. These errors sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to understand. Build accuracy first with clear subject–verb sentences such as “The figure stood at 25 million in 2007,” then combine comparisons using correctly formed clauses.
