Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and include a broad overview: the $100,000-or-more group becomes the largest by 2015, while the middle-income groups are comparatively stable. However, the account is incomplete and some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. For example, the $25,000–$49,999 group is highest in 2011 at about 29.5 million, but the sentence describing this is difficult to interpret; the $50,000–$74,999 group stays near 21 million throughout, and the $75,000–$99,999 group changes only slightly, neither of which is clearly reported. The final paragraph also introduces “household prices,” which the chart does not show. The response is 143 words, below the required 150. Add accurate, clearly explained comparisons for the main categories and complete the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation: an introduction is followed by an overview, details for 2007 and 2011, and a final paragraph about 2015. This gives the reader a basic sense of the time sequence. However, progression is weakened by unclear links and incomplete development. The transition “On the other hand” does not clearly show how the 2015 figures contrast with the preceding information, and “to conclude” introduces a fragmentary restatement rather than a useful conclusion. Several ideas are crowded into single sentences, particularly the 2015 paragraph, making comparisons hard to follow. Group the figures into a clear comparison of the income bands, use linking phrases to show changes or stability, and ensure each paragraph has one clear purpose.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “income group,” “figure,” “category,” and “remained relatively,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand. “Most of the household is sold” does not describe household numbers, while “raising of household prices” is unrelated to the chart. Forms such as “householder” and “successfull” are also inaccurate. Aim for precise, repeated-use terms such as “the number of households,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable,” rather than trying to describe the data with unsuitable phrases. Check spelling and use income-band labels consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, and the opening sentence communicates the chart’s general subject. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes obscure the intended comparisons. For example, “The bar chart illustrate” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “the figure is dropped” uses an incorrect verb form. The overview sentence beginning “In contrast” lacks a complete, clear construction, while the final sentence, “to conclude bar chart illustrate the householder of america in million by var,” is incomplete. Articles, plurals, punctuation, and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “The number of households earning $100,000 or more rose to about 33 million in 2015.”
