Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant features, including the stability of the $50,000–$74,999 group at about 21 million and the low figures for the $75,000–$99,999 group. However, the response only partially reports the chart and repeatedly confuses households measured in millions with percentages or numbers of owners. For example, the top-income group is about 29.5 million in 2007 and 33.5 million in 2015, not 38% and 36%; the $25,000–$49,999 group is about 29.5 million in 2011, rather than 30%. The overview also misses the key contrast that the highest-income group becomes the largest by 2015. Report the units accurately and compare the main categories across the years more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to paragraphs about 2011 and 2015, followed by a comparison. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “In 2011” and “In contrast” signal relationships between points. However, there is no clear, sustained progression: 2007 is mainly mentioned in the overview, while the later paragraphs select figures without consistently comparing the same categories across all three years. Several sentences are difficult to follow because ideas are joined awkwardly, as in “and the those who had the 75,000 to 99,999 income.” Group the information by meaningful trends and use clear comparisons, rather than relying mainly on year-by-year sequencing and repeated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “increased,” “decreased,” “dramatically,” and “in contrast,” so the reader can recognise that you are describing changes and comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. “People had the houses reflect to their annual income” does not naturally describe the chart, and “households owners” is repeated where “households” would be clearer. The repeated use of “those people who had” also makes the report less precise. Choose vocabulary that accurately describes the data and its units, such as “the number of households,” “income bracket,” and “stood at,” and avoid describing household counts as percentages.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt longer sentences and use time references to organise the report, but the range of sentence structures is limited and complex attempts are often faulty. For example, “the number of owners increased as compared to 2007 those who had the income…” lacks a clear grammatical connection between its clauses. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “the lowest households… those who has” and “the people who had the income was.” These errors sometimes make relationships between the figures difficult to understand. Build shorter, complete comparison sentences first, checking that each subject has a matching verb; then add subordinate clauses only when their connection is clear.
