Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and make an attempt at an overview, noting that household numbers fluctuate and reporting several income groups. Some figures are broadly accurate: for example, the $50,000–$74,999 group stays around 21 million, and the highest-income group is about 29 million in 2007. However, the overview is too vague to highlight the main patterns, and coverage is incomplete: the response gives little information about the $75,000–$99,999 and $100,000-or-more groups in 2011 and 2015. There are also inaccuracies, such as giving the $25,000–$49,999 figure in 2007 as approximately 26 million rather than about 27 million. Select the key trends and compare all three years more systematically.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has separate opening, overview and detail paragraphs, and it generally follows the years from 2007 to 2011 and 2015. This gives it some basic organisation. However, progression is difficult to follow because the final paragraph shifts between income categories and years without clearly identifying each category. For instance, “Anual income was 25 millions househols” does not make clear which income band is being discussed, and “some downwords in 2015” has an unclear reference. Linking words such as “but” and “while” are used, but they do not consistently clarify the comparisons. Group the information by income band or by year, and use clear references and transitions to show how each figure relates to the chart.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “number of households,” “income range,” “increased,” and “millions,” so the reader can recognise the topic and several comparisons. However, the vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and frequent spelling and word-choice problems strain understanding. Examples include “houholds,” “unites,” “Anual,” “owend house,” and “downwords.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “the number of family” and “household earning.” Use accurate chart language such as “households,” “income bracket,” “stood at,” and “rose to,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish a stable figure from a rise or fall.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, including a sentence beginning “where the income range between…” and one using “while.” However, sentence structures are very limited in control, and frequent errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “the number of family,” “the number of household was,” and “Overall, the number of houholds is almost same,” which show problems with articles, plurals, agreement and sentence construction. Tense and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “from 2007, Anual income…” and the run-on comparisons in the final paragraph. Practise writing one complete sentence for each comparison, using consistent past tense and checking subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation.
