Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify two relevant features: the $100,000-or-more group is among the largest, and the $75,000–$99,999 group is the smallest. However, the overview is inaccurate because the highest-income group was not always largest: it was slightly below the $25,000–$49,999 group in 2011. The response also gives only a partial account of the chart, focusing mainly on 2007 and omitting the important changes in 2011 and 2015, including the rise to about 33.5 million in the highest-income category. The opening also says 2000 rather than 2007. The response is 89 words, below the required 150, so the task is only minimally covered. Add a clear overview and compare the main trends across all three years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then details about 2007. However, the ideas do not progress into a complete summary, and the response ends without covering 2011 or 2015. The overview is split awkwardly across lines, with “and” left at the end of one line, while the long final sentence strings several income groups together without clear separation. Linking is limited, and the relationship between the figures is sometimes difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and organise the details by meaningful trends rather than listing categories in one sentence. Clear sentence boundaries and transitions such as “by contrast” would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant terms, including “annual income,” “households,” and income ranges, so the reader can identify the subject. However, vocabulary is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “always on top,” “downword,” “owning … houses,” and “a possesions of houses.” The chart concerns numbers of households, not houses owned, so this wording also misrepresents what is measured. Spelling and number formatting are inconsistent, for example “begining” and “29millions.” Build a more precise set of chart-description phrases, such as “the largest category,” “the number of households,” “stood at,” and “increased to,” and use them consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and a longer comparison, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make the relationships between ideas difficult to understand. For example, “the $100,000 or above than always on top” lacks a clear verb and has an unclear comparison, while “people who earn … owning” uses an incorrect verb form. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries in “less than £25000 income they hold 25millions houses.” Most sentences are not reliably formed, and punctuation does not consistently separate the comparisons. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, for example, “The number of households earning $100,000 or more was about 29.5 million in 2007,” then connect comparisons with accurate clauses.
