Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response makes a limited attempt to describe the chart, but it does not accurately report its main features. It mentions 25 million households in 2007 and about 33 million in 2015, yet treats these as totals; the chart instead gives figures for five separate income groups. The claim that household numbers “double” by 2011 is unsupported, and the statements about monthly income, population growth and job opportunities are not shown in the data. There is no clear overview of the contrasting trends, such as the rise in the $100,000-or-more group by 2015 and the stability of the $50,000–$74,999 group. The response is also 14 words below the 150-word minimum. To improve, summarise the overall pattern and compare accurate category figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic sequence through 2007, 2011 and 2015, and the opening sentence identifies the subject, so the reader can recognise the intended topic. However, the response is not organised into a clear overview and supporting comparisons, and the ideas within the middle section are difficult to follow. For example, the move from household numbers to “monthly income,” then to world population and job opportunities, introduces unrelated or unsupported points rather than developing a chart comparison. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “When” and “Moreover” are attempted, but some do not create a logical connection between the statements. Use a short overview followed by paragraphs comparing the income groups, and make each sentence relate directly to the chart.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “households,” “annual income” and “job opportunities,” and attempts to describe change with “increased.” However, word choice is often inaccurate or imprecise, which makes the chart description hard to interpret. “Minimine salary” does not clearly express an income category, while “their monthly income was double” confuses household counts with income and uses an unsupported comparison. There are also spelling errors such as “incerase,” “pervious” and “Morever,” and phrases such as “highest percentage” do not accurately describe the chart’s figures. Build a small set of precise terms for reporting data—“income bracket,” “number of households,” “rose,” “remained stable”—and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, but control is inconsistent and errors frequently affect clarity. For example, “it can gives information” has an incorrect verb form, and “only 25 millions are households” has problems with tense, word order and plural agreement. The sentence beginning “When numbers of households are increased” is not a complete, well-formed clause, and “there was a highest percentage” uses an incorrect article and an unclear grammatical construction. Punctuation is also uneven, including the space before the full stop in the opening sentence. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and basic sentence patterns, such as “The figure for this group rose from … to …,” before attempting longer comparisons.
