Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response identifies the chart’s subject and attempts an overview, noting that the highest-income group is large and that the middle-income group remains stable. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: the $100,000-or-more group is not consistently the largest, since it falls from about 29.5 million in 2007 to 27.5 million in 2011 before rising to 33.5 million in 2015. The claim that the lowest income is $25,000 also confuses an income band with a single figure. Several comparisons are misreported or too vague, such as saying the 2011 figures are “almost” the same and describing 2015 only as “25 to 30 millions.” Select the main trends accurately and support them with clear figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and two paragraphs referring to different years. This gives the reader some sense of the chart’s time frame. However, the information does not progress in a clear, consistent way. The 2007 paragraph mixes the highest-income group with the lowest-income group, while the 2011 paragraph shifts between income bands without explaining which figures are being compared. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “Although,” and “furthermore” do not always express the relationship between the ideas that follow them. Organise the body by comparing income groups across all three years, and use simpler, more precise transitions to show increases, decreases, and stability.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “income,” “number,” “rise,” and “middle class,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is basic and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “proportion lots of householders,” “rose householder,” and “holder houses” are not natural ways to describe the data. “Millions peoples” and “rich peoples” are also unsuitable for referring to household counts or income groups. Spelling errors, including “higgest,” “househoulders,” and “exect,” further reduce clarity. Use standard chart language such as “the number of households,” “the highest-income group,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts some longer sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “whereby,” “when,” and “Although,” but these are often incomplete or difficult to interpret. For example, “Overall the data presents the higgest number…” lacks a clear grammatical structure, and “On that time when its start from 25 millions…” has unclear tense, agreement, and clause construction. Articles and plurals are also frequently inaccurate, as in “the rose householder is 30 millions peoples.” Most sentences do not show reliable control of basic sentence patterns, which often obscures the intended comparisons. Build accurate simple sentences first—for example, “In 2007, about 30 million households earned $100,000 or more”—then add a limited number of well-formed comparison clauses.
