Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s subject and report figures for all three years, including the important rise in the $100,000-or-more group by 2015. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “the percentage of increase” is not the right measure, and the chart shows household numbers, not percentages. Several figures or categories are misreported—for example, the $50,000–$74,999 group is about 21 million in each year, not 22 in 2007 and 2011; the 2015 figures for the two lowest bands are about 28 and 28.5 million, not 26 and 27. The response is also 144 words, below the 150-word minimum. Give a clear overview and check each figure against its income band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview, and then information for 2007, 2011 and 2015. Time markers such as “Next” and “Last year” help the reader follow this order. However, progression is weakened by repetitive, list-like sentences and unclear links between figures and categories. For instance, “number of households is firstly, less than $25,000 and secondly $25,000-$74,999” does not clearly explain what is being compared, and “the number of households in 22” is difficult to interpret. Paragraphing is limited, and the overview does not effectively guide the later details. Group the income bands into meaningful comparisons and use clearer sentence links rather than repeating the same listing pattern.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “number of households,” “annual income,” and “maximum,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. “Percentage of increase” is inaccurate because the chart reports household totals, while “maximum average” combines ideas that do not fit the data. There are also spelling errors such as “sacreen” and “nuber,” and the phrase “at the ent” is unclear. Use precise terms for quantities and trends, and check spelling before submitting. For example, describe a category as having the “highest number of households” rather than a “maximum average.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to communicate the data through several sentences and use some time references, but grammatical control is inconsistent and sentence structures are mostly simple or list-like. The opening, “The chart illustrate,” has a subject–verb agreement error; “Overall, In years” has incorrect capitalisation and an incomplete construction; and “the number of households is firstly” does not form a clear grammatical comparison. Missing or misplaced articles and punctuation also occur, as in “in year 2007” and the comma before spaces in the opening sentence. These errors sometimes make relationships between figures and categories hard to follow. Practise accurate sentence patterns such as “In 2007, the figure for X was approximately…” and proofread agreement, articles and punctuation.
