Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and give an overview, noting that the $100,000-plus group is highest in 2015 and that the $50,000–$74,999 group is relatively stable. However, several figures and trends are inaccurate: the under-$25,000 group rises from 25 million to about 28.5 million in 2011 and remains near 28 million in 2015, not 25.5 and 25.2; the $25,000–$49,999 group is about 27, 29.5 and 28.5 million, not 25.2 in 2007. The $75,000–$99,999 group does not remain constant, and the $100,000-plus group dips before rising to about 33.5 million. The response is also 10 words below the 150-word minimum. Include accurate key comparisons and fuller reporting of the changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic overall structure: an opening sentence, an overview, and a paragraph with details. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “on the other hand” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the response does not develop a clear progression through the income groups, and several categories are crowded into one long sentence. The repeated use of “while” and “however” makes relationships between figures difficult to follow, especially in the final paragraph. Some references, such as “it” and “those,” are not always clear. Organise the details into logical groups, use separate sentences for the main trends, and make comparisons explicit so the reader can follow the chart without rereading.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “increased,” “decreased,” “remained,” and “highest,” and the income ranges are generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing household data. “Population” and “earner” refer to people rather than households, while “earning” is used where “income” or “income group” would be more suitable. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “significatly” and “fluctuata,” and informal wording such as “1 lac plus” is not appropriate in this context. Use precise terms consistently and check spelling; this will make the comparisons clearer and more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast with “while” and “however,” but the longer constructions are often difficult to control. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in phrases such as “The chart illustrate” and “who earns,” and the opening overview has an unclear grammatical structure: “the earning of population who earn 1 lac plus has…” Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic, as in “the the number those citizen,” while the final paragraph runs together several ideas with inconsistent punctuation. These frequent errors sometimes make the intended meaning harder to understand. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build shorter, complete sentences before combining ideas.
