Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies some relevant comparisons, including the high figure for households earning $100,000 or more in 2015 and the relatively low figures for the $75,000–$99,999 group. However, several key details are misreported: in 2007, the under-$25,000 group was about 25 million, not 29 million, while the $50,000–$74,999 group was about 21 million, not 14 million. The overview also incorrectly calls that middle-income group the lowest; the $75,000–$99,999 group was lowest in 2007. The 2011 figures are confused, and the response ends mid-sentence, leaving the comparison incomplete. It is also 13 words below the required minimum. Include an accurate overview and report the main trends across all three years.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and time markers such as “In 2007” and “In 2011 and 2015” help signal comparisons. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview contains conflicting claims and the figures are not grouped consistently by income category or year. Linking words such as “while” and “conversely” are used, but the relationships they introduce are not always clear. The final sentence is cut off at “wer,” so the response has no complete ending. A clearer structure would give the overview first, then compare the income groups in a logical order, with complete sentences and explicit links between years.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “households,” “income,” “range,” and “approximately,” and it attempts to describe comparisons with “highest” and “lowest.” However, the range is limited and several spelling errors make the writing less clear, for example “thier,” “incmoe,” “houeholds,” and “betwwn.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural: “proportion of house owners” does not describe the chart, which gives numbers of households, and “one lac dollars” is not an appropriate way to report the $100,000 category in this context. Use accurate chart terminology and check spelling; phrases such as “the number of households” and “earning $100,000 or more” would be clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, as in “Overall, it is evident that…” and the comparison beginning “while those households…”. Meaning is generally recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven. There are errors in articles and number agreement, such as “in 2007, number of households” and “29 millions,” as well as awkward verb forms in “households whose earning was” and “households whose earning were.” Punctuation spacing is inconsistent, and the final sentence is incomplete, preventing the reader from seeing how the comparison was meant to finish. Practise complete, controlled sentences and check agreement, articles and plural forms before adding more complex clauses.
