Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people argue that History, as a subject at school, should have the most importance. On the other hand, some believe that in the modern world science and technology are more crucial and essential.
Teaching history at school plays a big role in developing the youth's culture and knowledge. But the way this subject is taught encourages memorisation and lacks critical thinking. Conversely, learning science and technology sharpens the students minds and teaches critical and independent thinking not to mention the role of those subject in developing and improving our life.
There is no denying that history is an important subject in schools. teaching history offers a huge value for the youth and for humanity as a whole. It allows us to learn lessons from the past and not repeat the same mistakes as our predecessors .It also offers an insight into the future based on past events and help the youngsters to build and shape their cultural and historical identity. However the problem with History as a school subject lies in the way that it is taught. It promotes memorisation over understanding and does not leave a space for critical thinking ,this owes to that history is usually presented as concrete facts that should not be doubted. For example, most students report not retaining much of the information they get in history class after they pass the exams .Unlike history, which many claim that it has no impact on the real world, science and technology are the cornerstone of our our modern society . They appear everywhere in our daily life from the buildings we live in to the cars we drive all the way to the food we get to eat. That's why we should a put a bigger emphasis on teaching those subject for our youth. I also believe that we need to encourage them to pursue STEM . Add to this, learning sciences and technology help students develop their brains, it teaches logical and systematic thinking and problem solving. These skills are useful for children even if they chose not to pursue science further in their life .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. The arguments regarding the value of history versus science are relevant and well-supported. However, the response is incomplete; it ends abruptly with 'thats why i believe that sciences are', leaving the conclusion unfinished. This prevents a full development of the final position. While the main body paragraphs are well-argued, the lack of a proper conclusion and the incomplete final sentence limit the overall impact and completeness of the response, preventing it from reaching the higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is generally coherent, with a logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the discussion of history, and the discussion of science. Cohesive devices such as 'conversely', 'however', and 'add to this' are used to link ideas. However, there are some issues with punctuation, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'predecessors .It') and missing commas, which occasionally makes the flow feel slightly mechanical. The abrupt ending also disrupts the overall coherence of the final paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'cornerstone of our modern society' and 'systematic thinking'. However, there are some repetitive word choices, such as 'subject' and 'important', which could be varied. There are also minor errors in word formation and spelling, such as 'students minds' (missing apostrophe) and 'our our' (repetition). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar. For example, 'this owes to that history is' is awkward phrasing, and there are several instances of missing or misplaced commas. Capitalization errors, such as 'thats' and 'i', also detract from the professional tone. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence boundary control and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will be beneficial.
